The “us” in the passuk (B’rashith 1.26-27) “G-D said let us make Adam in our image (b’tzalmenu) and after our likeness … let them have dominion….” refers to El-him (Plural Majesty) / the Shekinah (Divine Presence) in whose “shadow” (b’tzalmenu) and “likeness” (kidmoothenu) Adam was (b’ra) created and formed – Adam is spelled, Aleph, Dalet, Mem (El-him, Din, Melek – a ruler who judges [viz, has dominion] like the King) – It is the created world (btzelem the domain of the Shekinah ) that obscures or veils the Ein Sof (Eternal, Endless Light of) HaShem ….
Adam and Chava were created B’ra 1.26 and Vayyitzer 2.7 – first b’ra – ex nihilo (something from nothing) then formed Vayyitzer from dust (formed in humility) to become a living soul Nefesh Chayah (the “living soul” is expressed as a singular being united in purpose: to replenish the earth and subdue it, to have dominion over the earth).
In B’rashith 5.1, 2 we read that “in the day (i.e. Aeon) that El-him created Adam in the likeness (B’dmooth) of El-him created He him/them;” while the word b’tzalmenu (in the image/shadow) is omitted.
In B’rashith 9.6 we read “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of G-D made He man.” (ki b’tzelem El-him, asah eeth haAdam
כִּי בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים, עָשָׂה אֶת-הָאָדָם.) The words in the likeness (B’dmooth) are omitted.
